What is Beats & Breath?
Beats & Breath Yoga is a Unique Yoga class.
- We incorporate a Live Vinyl Dj from RI’s own Deejay Kellan (RymeCulture resident DJ and 90.3 Thursday 3-6 hip hop DJ) in combination with Professional Yoga instruction from Spoken word artist and Amrit Method Yoga Instructor, Jessica-Patrice Dorsey Coulter aka, J9, Facilitator of J9yoga.org.
This distinctive approach (no one in the RI area teaches with a live DJ) to Yoga instruction offers yoga to many whom may or may not be aware of yoga and its many health benefits.
- Offers a space for artists/creative like minded people to re-connect to themselves in a way that encourages the inner dimension of creativity through stillness, meditation and physical postures of yoga.
Who is Beats&Breath?
Jessica-Patrice D. Coulter also known as J9, has been practicing yoga for over a decade. Trained in The Integrative Amrit Method (I AM) of yoga, under Yogi Amrit Desai, Jessica uses specific sequencing in combination with meditation throughout every class to ensure that all participants have the invitation to practice relaxing with what is, however it is showing up in that moment. She discovered the healing and restorative power of yoga while she was recovering from an injury while she was in the United States Air force. As a disabled young female military veteran with PTSD, performance artist, and a single mother of two young sons, one of whom has autism, Jessica knows that the stillness found within the practice of yoga is the truest way for peace, both internally and externally.
Kellan Martin also knows as Deejay Kellan is the Resident DJ spinning all vinyl records at many Rhymeculture.org events. Kellan is also part of the University of Rhode Island long standing hip hop radio station time block from 3pm to 6pm spinning classic turntablism on Thursdays as a part of “Under’DaTable” Crew. Kellan continues to spin records and many venues, clubs and community events across Southern New England.

Jessica is on the National Campaign Team for the Wounded Warrior Project. This volunteer position, allows Jessica to share her story about being a Post 9/11 Disabled Veteran dealing with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder related to Military Sexual trauma. Jessica is also a Mother, Yoga Therapist and Spoken Word Artist. Part of her story is the therapeutic effect her Spoken Word poetry helps her manage PTSD.
